نوشته مهدی موسوی · ترجمه فاطمه اختصاری · ویراستاری Samuel Tongue

The Last Kiss هم شخصی است و هم جهانی — گواهی بر قدرت شعر در مقاومت در برابر خاموشی، حفظ حافظه و عبور دادن یک صدا از مرزهای زبان و جغرافیا.

Reader Reviews

★★★★★ “I Wish there were a way to get it in Iran. Huge congratulations! ❤️” — Mona Bayat Read full review
★★★★★ “As someone who has read Mehdi Mousavi's poetry extensively, knows many of his poems by heart, and is well aware of the challenges of translating his work, I know that translation can either build bridges or raise walls. That is precisely why, in my opinion, one of the most remarkable achievements of this book is that these poems remain poetry in translation. They retain their distinctly Persian identity while standing confidently as independent poems in English, fully at home in their new language. Wow. I'll be writing a longer, more detailed review of this book soon.” — Atefe Asadi Read full review
★★★★★ “In ‘The Last Kiss,’ Dr. Mehdi Mousavi paints a stark landscape of exile and imprisonment, where each poem feels like a wound. He doesn’t shy away from the darkness that many Iranians face, referencing both personal and collective pain. I was struck by his dedication to Kian Pirfalak, reminding me of the real lives behind these words. There’s this constant tension—he speaks of hope yet calls it absurd, even mentioning carving a smile. Yet, when I read one of his poems aloud to my family and friends, it wasn’t just sorrow we shared; it was the raw truth of endurance, and that moment of connection gave the pain a kind of meaning.” — Maryam Balazadeh Read full review
★★★★★ “First, I must say that this collection is absolutely a masterpiece. I found myself immersed in every single word of the poems. I felt the exile, the longing for home, the boundless sorrow and the love that permeates the entire book. I wept with each poem and experienced their deep sadness and love with all my heart. Even if I were to write forever about the beauty and brilliance of this book, words would still fail me. I could never fully express my inner feelings or how profoundly I enjoyed reading every line and every word of these poems. I wished the poems would continue forever, so that I could keep reading them endlessly, filling myself with all the love, sorrow and beauty they contain and losing myself in the pleasure of every letter and every verse. The translations are extraordinary. The way the beauty of these poems has been carried from one culture to another is truly remarkable. It reflects the tireless dedication and passion of the translators and editors, who have so artistically brought these masterful poems from a completely different cultural tradition into another, allowing readers around the world to experience and enjoy this exceptional work. I also greatly appreciated the decision to place the English poems alongside the Persian originals. It was a wonderful feature of the book and one that I loved immensely. I absolutely loved this book. I can not express how much I loved it and every poem touched me deeply.” — Mahboobeh Amoushahi Read full review
